How to Get a Verified Breeder Badge from ABRA

The Verified badge tells buyers you have been vetted -- not just self-described. Here is what it takes to earn one and what it does for your program.

When someone is looking for an American Bulldog puppy, they are making a significant decision -- financially, emotionally, and for the next 10 to 14 years of their family's life. They want to know that the breeder they are talking to is the real thing. The ABRA Verified Breeder badge exists to give them that confidence, and to give ethical breeders a way to publicly demonstrate what they stand for.

This page explains exactly what the Verified badge means, what you need to qualify, how the process works, and what you get when you have it.

What the Verified Breeder Badge Means

The ABRA Verified Breeder badge is not a participation trophy. It is not something you get just for paying for a membership. It signals that a breeder has:

When a buyer sees the Verified badge, they know that this breeder did not just show up last week with a litter to sell. They are part of a community with standards, and those standards are documented and enforced.

The badge appears on your profile on pedigreedatabase.ca and is visible to all site visitors -- no login required. It shows up in breeder directory search results and on individual dog profiles registered to your kennel.

Requirements for Verification

To be eligible for the Verified Breeder badge, you need to meet all of the following:

  1. Active ABRA membership. You must hold a current paid membership with ABRA. The registry is the organization behind the badge -- membership connects you to the official record of the breed.
  2. Breeder Pro membership on pedigreedatabase.ca. The Verified badge is a Breeder Pro feature. Free and Legacy Builder memberships do not include badge eligibility.
  3. Completed breeder directory profile. Your profile must have your kennel name, location, contact method, a description of your program, and at least one photo. Incomplete profiles do not qualify.
  4. At least one registered dog in the archive. You need to have dogs with completed profiles and pedigrees on file. The archive is how your program is documented.
  5. Health testing documentation. You need to have health testing results on file for your breeding dogs. The minimum accepted is hip evaluation (OFA or PennHIP) and NCL DNA testing. Results can be submitted through your dashboard.

Benefits of the Verified Badge

Beyond the obvious trust signal with buyers, the Verified badge has practical benefits for your program's visibility and reach.

Visibility in the Breeder Directory

The breeder directory on pedigreedatabase.ca is searchable by location, bloodline preference, and availability. Verified breeders appear at the top of search results within their category. A buyer searching for an AB breeder in their region will see Verified breeders first.

Badge on Dog Profiles

Every dog registered under your kennel will display your Verified status. When someone searches for a dog in your lines and finds one of your registered dogs, they can see immediately that you are a verified program. This builds credibility even with people who did not start their search by looking for a breeder.

Buyer Confidence

Buyers who are doing their homework -- reading about AB breeders before reaching out -- recognize verification as a meaningful signal. It reduces the initial skepticism that all buyers have and moves you faster into a real conversation about your dogs.

Community Recognition

Within the AB community, Verified status is recognized as a mark of a serious program. It matters when you are networking with other breeders, when you are presenting at events, and when your kennel name comes up in conversations among experienced AB people.

Step-by-Step: How to Get Verified

  1. Create or log in to your account on pedigreedatabase.ca If you do not have an account, registration is free and takes two minutes. Go to pedigreedatabase.ca and click the sign-up link in the header.
  2. Upgrade to Breeder Pro membership From your dashboard, navigate to the Membership section and select Breeder Pro. You can pay monthly ($24/month) or yearly ($240/year). Payment is processed securely through Stripe.
  3. Complete your breeder directory profile Fill in every section of your breeder profile -- kennel name, location, contact details, a description of your program (bloodlines, what you focus on, your breeding philosophy), and at least one photo of your dogs or kennel.
  4. Add your dogs to the archive Add profiles for your breeding dogs. Include registered names, pedigrees (sire and dam with their own profiles linked if possible), birth dates, and photos. The more complete your dog profiles, the stronger your listing.
  5. Upload health testing documentation From each dog's profile, upload health testing results. OFA results can be submitted directly; DNA test certificates can be uploaded as PDFs or image files. This information displays on your dog's profile and is reviewed as part of verification.
  6. Submit your verification application From your Breeder Pro dashboard, navigate to the Verification tab and submit your application. ABRA reviews applications within 5 to 7 business days. You will receive a notification when your verification is complete.
  7. Your badge goes live Once approved, the Verified Breeder badge appears automatically on your profile, in directory search results, and on all dog profiles registered to your kennel. No additional setup is needed.

Tip: Applications with complete profiles and clear health documentation are approved faster. Before you submit, check that every required section of your breeder profile is filled in and that your dogs' health records are uploaded and legible.

How the Verified Badge Displays on pedigreedatabase.ca

Once you are verified, here is where and how your badge shows up:

Your Breeder Profile Page

The Verified badge appears prominently at the top of your breeder profile page, next to your kennel name. It is styled in ABRA's gold and navy colors and includes hover text that explains what verification means when buyers mouse over it.

Breeder Directory Search Results

In directory search results, your listing shows the Verified badge beside your kennel name. Verified breeders are sorted before non-verified breeders within the same search criteria.

Individual Dog Profiles

On every dog profile registered under your kennel, a small Verified Breeder indicator links back to your breeder profile. Buyers researching bloodlines will see your verification status even if they find you through a dog search rather than a breeder search.

Maintaining Your Verified Status

Verification is active as long as your Breeder Pro membership is current and your program continues to meet ABRA's standards. ABRA reserves the right to review or revoke verification if a breeder's conduct comes into conflict with the code of ethics.

Your membership renews automatically on a monthly or annual basis. If your membership lapses, your Verified badge is paused until the membership is renewed. It reactivates immediately upon renewal -- no new application required.

Who Should Get Verified?

The Verified badge is designed for breeders who are serious about the American Bulldog, are already doing health testing and maintaining pedigree records, and want buyers to know that without having to explain it in every conversation.

If you are early in your breeding program and have not yet established health testing protocols or a track record, verification may be a goal to work toward rather than a current step. The requirements exist to ensure the badge means something -- and that meaning only holds if the standards are maintained.

If you are an experienced breeder who has been doing things right for years but has not had a formal way to demonstrate that to buyers online, verification is exactly what you have been waiting for.

Ready to Get Started?

The entire process from account creation to badge approval takes most breeders less than a week once the profile and health documents are assembled. If you have questions about eligibility or the application process, contact ABRA directly through the pedigreedatabase.ca support page.

Your program deserves to be recognized. The community deserves to know who the serious breeders are. The Verified badge connects those two things.

Your Dog. Their Story. American Bulldog History Forever.
