American Bulldog Weight Calculator
This tool projects a puppy's current weight forward along the growth ranges published in our American Bulldog size guide. Every output is an estimate based on breed averages, not a measurement or a promise.

American Bulldog Growth Chart by Age
These are the same breed-average ranges the calculator runs on. Individual dogs vary, and both ends of each range are normal.
| Age | Male Weight (lbs) | Female Weight (lbs) |
|---|---|---|
| 3 months | 25 to 40 | 20 to 35 |
| 6 months | 45 to 65 | 35 to 55 |
| 9 months | 60 to 85 | 50 to 70 |
| 12 months | 70 to 100 | 55 to 80 |
| 18 months | 75 to 110 | 58 to 85 |
| 24 months | 75 to 120 | 60 to 90 |
Growth Curve by Type: Scott vs Johnson
Adult weight depends heavily on which side of the breed your dog comes from. Johnson (Bully) type American Bulldogs are stockier and heavier: males typically reach 90 to 120 pounds and females 70 to 90 pounds. Scott (Standard) types are leaner and more athletic: males generally land between 70 and 100 pounds and females between 60 and 80 pounds. Hybrids of the two types usually fall somewhere in between.
The calculator uses your type selection to show the published adult range next to your dog's estimate. If you are not sure which type you have, our guide to Scott vs Johnson American Bulldogs walks through the differences, and the pedigree itself is the definitive answer.
How the Calculator Works
At each age milestone, the Archive publishes a typical low and high weight for males and females. The calculator interpolates between those milestones, works out what share of adult weight a typical dog carries at your dog's exact age, and projects your dog's current weight forward along both the low and high growth curves. That produces an estimated adult range rather than a single false-precision number.
What it cannot see is genetics, and genetics is the single biggest factor in final size. The size of the parents, and the bloodline behind them, gives you the best prediction of adult size. That is where pedigree research beats any calculator: looking up a dog's line in the Archive shows you the builds and weights that repeat across generations.
When Do American Bulldogs Stop Growing?
Most American Bulldogs reach their full height by 12 to 14 months. Weight is a longer story: they keep filling out with muscle, chest depth, and overall mass until 2 to 3 years of age, and males especially can look dramatically different at 3 than they did at 12 months. So a 14-month-old at the bottom of the estimate range has plenty of maturing left to do.
Nutrition during this window matters. See our guides to the best puppy food for American Bulldogs for the first year and feeding an adult American Bulldog once growth levels off. For the full breakdown of heights, builds, and what drives size, read How Big Do American Bulldogs Get?
When to Worry About a Puppy's Growth
A puppy tracking the low or high edge of the chart is normal. The signals worth a vet conversation are different ones: a puppy sitting consistently far outside the typical range for its age, steady growth that suddenly stalls, or visible body-condition problems. You should be able to feel the ribs without pressing hard and see a waist from above; if not, weight is ahead of the frame.
Growing too fast can be as much of a problem as growing too slow in a large breed, which is why balanced food and appropriate exercise matter through the whole growth window. If something feels off beyond weight, our overview of common American Bulldog health problems covers what responsible owners watch for.
How Breeders Track Litter Weights
Weight records start long before a puppy goes home. A breeder who logs litter weights from birth can spot a puppy falling behind its littermates early, and those records become part of the story a good kennel keeps about its line. Buyers benefit too: a breeder who can show you the parents' adult weights is giving you a better size prediction than any chart.
If you breed, our guides to planning a breeding and the real cost of breeding a litter cover the record-keeping side. And whether you breed or not, your dog's weights, photos, and pedigree belong somewhere permanent: add your dog to the Archive and its record lives alongside 44,000+ American Bulldogs.
Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is an American Bulldog weight calculator?
It produces an estimate, not a measurement. The calculator projects your dog's current weight forward along breed-average growth ranges published by the American Bulldog Archive. Genetics is the biggest factor in final size, so the parents and the bloodline behind them remain the best predictor. Your veterinarian is the authority on whether an individual dog is growing well.
How much should an American Bulldog weigh at 12 months?
At 12 months, male American Bulldogs typically weigh 70 to 100 pounds and females weigh 55 to 80 pounds. Most reach full height by 12 to 14 months, then continue to fill out with muscle and mass until 2 to 3 years of age.
Do Scott and Johnson American Bulldogs reach different adult weights?
Yes. Johnson (Bully) type males typically weigh 90 to 120 pounds and females 70 to 90 pounds. Scott (Standard) type males typically weigh 70 to 100 pounds and females 60 to 80 pounds. Hybrids of the two types usually land somewhere in between.
Can I predict an American Bulldog puppy's adult size from its parents?
The size of the parents, and the bloodline behind them, gives you the best prediction of adult size. Researching the pedigree shows you the weights and builds that repeat in a line, which is exactly what the American Bulldog Archive was built for.
When should I worry about my American Bulldog puppy's weight?
Talk to your vet if a puppy sits consistently far outside the typical range for its age, or if steady growth suddenly stalls. Body condition matters more than the number on the scale: you should be able to feel the ribs without pressing hard and see a visible waist from above.
